Why do people like vintage?

About VNTG

The fashion industry is the world's second largest polluter after the oil industry. In the last 30 years fast fashion brands created a concept of disposable fashion - clothes that are cheaply produced and delivered to the stores in dozens collections per year instead of the 2 seasonal ones.

Cheap prices and a marketing push incite clients to buy endless amounts of bad quality clothing that they will wear approximately 7 times and then throw away. Only in the US the generated amount of textile waste per year and per person is 35kg.

The fashion industry contributes to water pollution, soil intoxication (high amounts of chemicals are used to grow raw materials (ex. cotton)), microfibers pollution, waste problem, miserable working conditions, low wages, inhuman working hours, worker's health and safety problems, verbal and physical abuse on the workplace and clothes toxicity due to the chemicals used in the production process that are transferred through the skin to our bodies.

There are different sustainable solutions to the problem of the fashion industry and buying used (second hand or vintage clothes) is one of them.

Polluted Water
Muddy Stream
Dump
Pin Cushion

Buying vintage and second hand offers to each person a possibility to create his/her own unique wardrobe with selected pieces prioritizing

personal style over general fashion
