Among 4.5 million tourists who visit Israel and it's capital - Tel Aviv each year, most are aware that it's a great place for vintage and second hand shopping. In the last ten years vintage and second hand stores grew like mushrooms after a rainy day in each part of the city. Visitors can also find a multitude of vintage and second hand pop-up stores in city's cafes and bars especially on Thursdays and Fridays, just before shabbat.

Locals do also buy thrift clothes for different reasons: some young people who recently came to the city and don't have a fix revenue try to save money without compromising on their style; some people are in search of an amazing and incomparable item to complete their vintage closet; the most eco-conscious Tel-Avivians see vintage and second hand shopping as a more sustainable alternative to fast fashion and big "high street" brands (check out our "About" section of the website to find out about The Impact of the Fast Fashion Industry) and, finally, anybody walking in the city can hop in one of it's multiple thrift stores to find a little sartorial treasure.
There are many vintage and second hand stores in Tel Aviv but the best ones are few and deserve the focus of this article.
Please note that the classification is just the author's opinion, feel free to choose the best option for you.
Bograshov St. 53
Price range: from 20 to 350 shekels
The boutique is, without any doubt, my favorite one!
Inside of this yellow funky robot-decorated second hand store the clients can find various brands like Zara, Moschino, Ralf Lauren, Diesel, Adidas etc. Aderet proposes clothes for women and men, shoes and accessories.
The prices are between 29 and, approximately, 350 shekels. The second hand store offers a clothes exchange program on specific days of the week.
We especially like the taste and the thinking that lay behind each item chosen for sale: the styles are bold, distinguishable, specific and individual. Not a single clothing item is similar to another one.
Here is a summary of what in my opinion are strong and weak points of the Aderet's second hand offering:
Strong:
Curated assortment
Different styles
Shoes and accessories
Budget-friendly pricing
The space is well organized, it's pleasant to navigate
Weak:
It is really difficult to find a weak point to this amazing second hand store! Maybe that it's difficult to find larger sizes but that's really it!
King George St. 72
Price range: 59 to 350 shekels
Flashback is an important actor on the Tel Avivian vintage and second hand clothing scene. The second hand store has a big comfortable space nicely decorated with American style retro items without being overcharged and overwhelming for the clients.
The second hand store proposes a large choice of clothes sorted by category, by price and by color which makes it easy to navigate.
It is the best place to shop vintage Levi's denim, corduroy high waist trousers and velvet shirts. There is also a large and beautiful choice of basic sweatshirts of all colors with or without prints. Stylish banana-bags and belts are displayed in the middle of the store.
Here is a summary of what in my opinion are strong and weak points of the Flashback's second hand offering:
Strong:
Large assortment
Clear space and a lot of light
The clothes are arranged in a way easy to "read"
Weak:
Prices are high comparing to other second hand stores in Tel Aviv
The clothes fit the "surfer" look, the "skateboarder" look or the hipster look, it will be difficult to find something if you wear more dressed-up elegant outfits
The choice of accessories is small comparing to other second hand stores in the city
Vintage Store, Rambam St. 7
Price range: from 50 to 350 shekels
Well, Betty is The Person who proposes real vintage clothes in Tel Aviv. By "real" we don't mean that other stores propose something "fake", just Betty's clothes style definitely belongs to precise eras of the fashion history of the 20th century.
The biggest part of this vintage store assortment are dresses, of all styles, shapes and colors. Each vintage item that you touch is unique, amazingly beautiful and surprisingly different from anything you have ever seen before! The collection reflects the store owner's personality so coming inside is a real dive in the rabbit's whole of a colorful and a crazy vintage world.
Here is a summary of what in my opinion are strong and weak points of the Betty In Vintage Land's second hand offering:
Strong:
Great choice of vintage dresses with very specific and unique styles
High quality accessories
Nice and pleasant store, the atmosphere is "like at home"
Weak:
The prices are quite high
The assortment of items other then dresses is a bit small.
Herzl St. 81
This store proposes vintage and second hand clothing priced by its weight.
You will find a grade above the cash desk that will tell you which color code goes with which price per kilo.
The assortment in this second hand store changes quickly as the deliveries come. Multiple brands are proposed from Zara, H&M and Mango to more rare and unknown vintage brands from the 60s and the 70s. To make a rare find you'll have to search attentively because of the large quantity of clothes concentrated on a relatively small space. This abundance is an advantage and disadvantage at the same time: the store space might look messy but, at the same time, such a displaying reminds the visitors of an old grand-mom's loft full of hidden treasures and secrets.
The prices are a little more expensive then Aderet second hand store but less expensive then Flashback Vintage Store.
Here is a summary of what in my opinion are strong and weak points of the Buy Kilo second hand offering:
Strong:
Large assortment
Different styles
Great place for unexpected finds
Weak:
Looks messy inside as a big quantity of items is stored on a small space
The prices by kilo do not always reflect the quality of an item
You should ask the salesperson to weight the piece to know how much it costs
Geula St. 45
Price range: 50 to 200 shekels
Obsessia is a remarkable second hand store in Tel Aviv due to its very unique clothes assortment that comes from Japan (here is a link to Japanese Vintage Clothing on Etsy so that you can figure out the style).
Inside of this blue-colored second hand store you will find skirts, shirts, shorts, dresses and accessories! I would describe the store as a paradise for somebody looking for a vintage dress and accessories. The choice is really large and some accessories are sold new!
The clothes are classified by category with a specific price which makes it more convenient to navigate. The prices are a little more expensive then Aderet or Buy Kilo but they are aligned with Betty In Vintage Land and Flashback second hand stores.
Here are, in my opinion, strong and weak sides of the Obsessia second hand store:
Strong:
Large choice of dresses and accessories
Vintage items and more modern looking ones
A large choice of sleeping dresses (that ladies can styles as dresses ;) )
Weak:
The place - it's difficult to notice the store from the street if you are just passing by (every time I go there I have to Google-map it...)
Many items are synthetic (even though you can find natural materials)
The style of the clothes is very "lady like" so it will be difficult to find something if your style is "tomboy" or "boyfriend's"
Conclusion
